How to Make a Poppet

As we mentioned on the previous page, poppets can be made from a variety of materials. However, here we are going to deal with one made from fabric. The fabric can be from an item of clothing that has been worn by the person, or purchased from a store that sells fabric. The material can be of any color that is beneficial to the magickal work. I like to use white or a natural colored muslin or cotton blend fabric. This works well for penning or painting on a face, marking significant scars, etc. on the body parts, etc. Sometimes colored fabric does not permit clear markings for this. Materials List: You will need about a 12 inch wide by 11 inch long piece of fabric Fabric pens or markers for making the face and/or making markings on the body Yarn or doll hair (this is optional) Sewing needle and some large head straight pins A pair of sharp scissors The materials that you are going to stuff the doll with. Make sure you have sufficient.

Now we are ready to begin! Seams sewn are 1/4 inch all around. Fold your fabric so that it is 6 inches wide and 11 inches long. Make sure that the dull side is on the outside. Lay your pattern pieces on the fabric according to the directions on the pieces. Be sure that you place the fold on the fold of the fabric and do not cut this side. Now cut it out. Once you have it cut out, sew each extremity together with small stitches then turn them inside out. If you are using yarn for the hair and want it to be attached to the top of the head, cut the lengths you want and stitch them around the top of the head before you put the pieces together. When the head is turned inside out the hair should be on the outside. Leave adequate openings for the head, legs and arms to be attached to the torso. Stuff each extremitiy with the chosen objects and materials, leaving enough room at the top to baste it shut. Once you have done this, begin attaching the arms and legs securely to the torso, then stuff the torso as well and stitch the head on securely. Now you can begin adding the facial features. You can also add breasts (for a female doll) and appropriate genetailia to intensify the identity of the person. (This can be the most fun part of creating your poppet) You may also make clothes for your doll. The personalization is entirely up to you. When you have made your poppet and it meets your specifications and you are therefore satisfied with the results, it is time to continue with your magickal work. REMEMBER - When you are creating the poppet it is important to continually use your mind to impart your Desire, and your Intent into the creation.
