Alban Hefin
(Letha's Day)

                       HIGH PRIESTESS:
On Midsummer's day
While Taruos wended his way
He met a Lady,
Dressed in silver,
Dressed in grey

                                   MEMBERS:
Who was this Lady,
Dressed in silver,
Dressed in grey?
Tell us, tell us,
We pray!

                       HIGH PRIESTESS:
She was Rhiannon,
The Lady of Avalon
And on her arm,
In a basket gay,
She carried twelve golden apples,
Twelve apples of gold,
They could be given,
But never sold!

(Pause)

She offered one to the Sun Lord,
And he right gladly ate;
It was so strangely sweet,
He thought he felt a numbness
In his feet

(Pause)

She gave him another,
And he ate that one too,
But a sweat broke out on his face
Like a cold morning dew

(Pause)

She with a smile gave another
And when he ate it, the ground seemed to move
He felt then he would fall
And when she offered another
He thought he heard danger's call
He knew he could not eat it,
Even if he would!

                                   MEMBERS:
Tell us, tell us,
We pray,
What did the Lady do?
What did she say?

                       HIGH PRIESTESS:
She spoke thus:
My Lord, good Taruos,
You have eaten three of my apples,
Three of my apples of gold,
And for three months
Of each year hereafter,
You shall spend in Avalon,
The Land of the Blessed,
The Land of the Dead.
You shall dance in the Land of the Dead,
You will dance in the Blessed Land;
You will dance with me!

(Pause)

The Bright Lord hung down his head
To think that he would dance
In the Land of the Dead,
In the Land of Dread.
He lifted up his head
With a glint in his eye
And a smile on his face,
And laughingly, he began to dance,
At an even faster pace,
And he danced in the sun bright,
From noon to night,
He went laughing on his way,
For he lived and loved for the moment,
And he lived for the day

                                   MEMBERS:
Lady! Lady!
That's the way!
Live for the moment and
Dance for the day!
Dance for the moment,
And live for the day!
Away! Away! Away!

(The members dance gayly about.)
