The Laws Of The Craft

  1.
If at all possible, find a place where the High Days of the Sun and the Moon can be celebrated. Best of all is an oak grove. And this place shall be called "The Drynemeton", which means, in the ancient tongue, "The Sacred Oak Grove", or more recently, "The Temple", or "Sacred Place." If you cannot obtain this, then set aside a place wherever you can for work and worship.

  2.
You shall gather yourself into a college of not more than fifty persons.

  3.
You shall be governed, and taught in all matters by a High Priestess and High Priest.

  4.
The High Priest shall be of the Craft Masters. He is The Arm Of The Law Of The Goddess.

  5.
The High Priestess should be of the Craft Masters, but if there be no woman of this degree, then she shall be chosen by the Goddess by the casting of lots. She is The Oracle Of The Goddess. When the Goddess has come upon Her, none shall lay hands upon Her, for She is Holy.

  6.
You shall gather yourselves together on The Days Of Power.

  7.
If anyone should have a problem, let him present it to the High Priest, and, if need be, it shall be worked on one of The Days Of Power.

  8.
No member of the college shall be left in need.

  9.
If strife shall arise among any members of the college, it shall be presented to the High Priest, and you shall abide by his judgment, for he is The Arm Of The Law Of The Goddess.

10.
If a problem concerning love shall arise, you shall take it to the High Priestess. You shall abide by her judgment, for She is The Oracle Of The Goddess.

11.
The High Priestess and High Priest shall govern for nine years. If either office is vacated before the end of the term, then new Officers shall be chosen by the Goddess by the casting of lots. An Officer shall have as many terms as they are elected to, so long as their senses shall remain clean and stable.

12.
Each member shall give of his abundance an amount set by general agreement by the college, to be paid monthly. A Lesser Priest or Priestess shall keep the moneys, and shall be ever ready to give an accounting for it. It shall be used toward the general welfare of the members of the college, and for properties, shall they be desired.

13.
The High Priest shall appoint certain members to be Officers for him if the need arise, and likewise, also the High Priestess.

14.
If any member shall work against the college in such a manner as to bring harm or dishonor upon it, he shall be warned three times, and if he heed not, he shall be cast out of the college, and given over to the Dark One. This shall be done by the casting of lots.

15.
A "Seeker" shall become a "Student" when he has completed The Tools Of The Art And Craft, and they have been approved by the High Priest. And he shall say these words: "Here are my Tools Of The Art And Craft. I love the Goddess, and I desire Her path. I pray that you accept me, and find me not lacking."

16.
A "Student" shall become a "Lesser Priest" when he has learned the "Little Works" and proved that he can indeed work them. And he shall say these words: "By my work and devotion to the Goddess, approve me!" And if the High Priest find him not wanting, they shall say, "In Her Name, we do!"

17.
A "Lesser Priest" shall become a "Master Of The Craft" when he can prove to the satisfaction of the High Priest that he can do all the "Little Works" and can Merge without any aid.

18.
You shall not profess to be able to do what you cannot, lest you bring disrepute upon the Craft and College.

19.
Obey the Instructions, Guidelines, and Laws Of The Craft and College and you shall live well upon the Earth, for she loves Her children.

20.
These laws were given of old for our well-being, and not to be a burden to us. Therefore, keep the laws in keeping with the nature of the times, and change those that no longer apply, and write new ones when and if they are needed.
