The Ritual of the Coming of Age


      This ritual is to be performed by the High Priestess and the High Priest. The High Priestess will lead if the young person is male. The High Priest will lead if the young person is female. This ritual is to be performed when they have reached the age of sixteen years. The ritual of coming of age is actually the ritual of receiving their second magickal name.


            LEADING OFFICER:
Nine years ago, young man/young lady, you received your first magickal name. You were placed in the guardianship of the goddess/god(name). Who is now going to be the sponsor who presents this young man/young lady?





                            SPONSOR:
I am! (They present the candidate to the Leading Officer).


            LEADING OFFICER:
Sponsor, tell us now the magickal name that has been chosen for this young man/young lady.



                            SPONSOR:
His/Her name shall be (magickal name)!


            LEADING OFFICER:
Before all the gods of the Tuatha of Kerridwen we now present to this college this son/daughter of (names of parents), and this person shall be known henceforth as (magickal name)!

      The Supporting Officer brings forth the Sacred Anointing Oil and hands it to the Leading Officer. The Leading Officer dips their finger in the oil and makes a protective circle upon the forehead of the young person.

            LEADING OFFICER:
In the name of thy chosen goddess/god, I anoint thee!

Now, (magickal name), that you have come of age, you are launched upon the Great Sea of Life! It is the time of the beginning of great adventures, and also, of great responsibilities. We give you two tools of great power with which to guide yourself, and to find your true path. These are: the Four Great Keys, and the Great Law. We know the Four Great Keys by the name of WeSSeL. This word encodes these four concepts: Wisdom. Self-honesty. Self-responsibility. Love.
Next, we give you the definition of the Great Law. It is: There is only One Being in existence, and that is the Boundless, and you are THAT!
