If a college has established a nematon with circles, groves, temples, and houses of residence; then one would see more clearly a reason for the types of third degree priesthood. Until such comes about, there is little use for these positions except to indicate a direction for higher study. An elder simply indicates to the High Priestess and High Priest a desire to peruse a certain course of higher study. The High Priestess and High Priest grant them the title that belongs to that course of action. A new name may be taken (or added to the old name) at this time. If we based our nematon on the ancient pattern of each of the three types of 3rd degrees, priests would have their own "houses" and temple precincts. There would be a 'school' in each precinct where students and lesser priests could seek out someone to teach them a particular thing. An example would be to seek out a bard to teach them a certain type of poetry. As you can see, it takes effort and deep desire to reach this point in a College's 'life' and growth. If patterns continue to form as presently directed, the college members will soon begin to have a deep desire for an established nematon. And when the desire has "moved," the expectation will follow. Then, at last, the New Age will truly begin!
Here are some suggestions to consider with regard to founding one of the three schools of Mastership. 1. It would be wise to have an Acting Uchel Gwyddon until the college is organized, and then, when there are at least five members of the college, let there be an election. I suggest that the term of office not exceed three years. (It would be "best" for the overall pattern of the three colleges if each had a woman as head of these "inner court" structures. At least, to begin the pattern in keeping with our ways and Laws.) 2. All details of organization should be as simple as possible. 3. I suggest that all areas that the college encompasses be the province of study and research of the members, but not any area that is particularly directed by the officers. In other words, independent study and research would be encouraged. What is it that we really want? Not the endless learning of countless details, but the Patterns of each area and sub-area. So, for example, in the Bardic Priesthood, one would learn the Patterns of dance, the Patterns of chanting, etc. If one has truly learned the Patterns of a thing, then they really understand it. 4. If a member wishes to teach, have them list those areas in which they are willing to do instruction, and then any student can enter that class who wishes to. 5. When the ritual and organization of the college is written, it would be wise to go over it very carefully and remove all that is not necessary -- pare it to the bones, and what is left will be useful and wise (hopefully). |
